Tuesday Evening

Q: What do you do when you are the only adult with ten children in a city where you know one main area of town?

A: Take them on a mile hike downhill to the city park and let them play in the water.

Yes, I was left to watch the troops on the home front while the therapy tour was taking place, and I was glad to do it. It started with a movie on the large screen, and then I was going to do another movie, but I had tired children, and it was about 6:00 p.m. I decided that instead of letting them take a chance of falling asleep, I would wear them out. We put on swimming suits and headed for the park.

Ketchikan is all hills, so I made all the children get a buddy and off we went. It was a mile (I just now checked the distance) to City Park. Since I had several older children, I let them play in more than one pool, they just had to stay with their buddy. I learned, once again, that there were several ways to count to ten, and if there were more than five in a group, I couldn't just look at it and know how many there were.

While we were there, J, caught a fish. Everyone was fascinated by it, and most held it while I took a picture.

It started to get cold while we were there, so we packed up after about an hour and headed back. We went the back way to go home, and I just looked it up, if we would have finished the trek up hill, it would have been 1.7 miles. Luckily for most, the therapy tour had ended, and Heather and Amber brought the vans and rescued the walkers. Little Abby had cut her foot open and had several small rocks in it, and she had just noticed, so she was in pain and glad to be rescued.

Eli wanted to finish the walk, so I finished it with him. The only down side, was that I didn't do dinner with the troops, so we had to fix dinner when we got home. It was a good thing Heather had two huge cases of corn dogs, because we had corn dogs for the third time.

I did manage to wear the children out. A couple of them didn't make it through scriptures, and the rest of them went right to sleep.

GOAL ACCOMPLISHED!
